Every year, new plastic materials are developed to meet the specific needs of each industrial sector. Thanks to research and the efforts of the major chemical multinationals, it has been possible to create an increasingly vast and multifunctional range of plastic materials.
This has certainly contributed to the improvement of collective well-being and the technological advancement of the entire planet, but it has also created some confusion in the definition of various plastics, due to chemical names, regulatory acronyms, and commercial names. This section has been specifically created to provide the customer with all the necessary information to choose the most suitable material for their needs.
LIMA can process both generic materials and materials covered by a registered trademark. If the customer specifically requires parts made from plastic material covered by a registered trademark, LIMA will source directly from the company holding the trademark.
Depending on the desired characteristics, it is possible to add to the virgin material antistatic agents, conductive additives, colorants, plasticizers, adhesion agents, fillers, reinforcing agents, blowing agents, antioxidants, antibacterial agents, reinforcing fibers, flame retardants, stabilizers, and slipping agents.
All of these substances are referred to as compounds.
Among the most requested and used materials are bronze, glass, carbon graphite, molybdenum disulfide, graphite, stainless steel, calcium fluoride, mineral salts, mica, ceramics, talc, fiberglass, carbon fiber, aramid fibers, and polyester resin.
The addition of compounds allows for modifying the intrinsic characteristics of the material, improving its performance in terms of workability, elasticity, aging resistance, weather resistance, hardness, resilience, rigidity, thermal resistance, electrical conductivity, wear resistance, friction behavior, dimensional stability, chemical resistance, and permeability to air and water.
MATERIALS and possible variants
This page has been specifically designed to help the customer navigate the complex world of plastics. In the sections dedicated to each material family, the chemical and commercial names, regulatory acronyms, the variants that have been treated and used by LIMA, and the chemical, physical, and mechanical characteristics will be listed. The customer will thus be able to find all the necessary information to choose the most suitable material for their needs.
